Swinging with rhythm

"I like to give myself room at address, so my hands are well away from the tops of my thighs. This encourages a wider extension in the takeaway, my hands and the club moving away more in one piece. It also gives me room to get a better release and extension through the ball. If you're too close to the ball at address you never have the room to do that; you end up too cramped at impact and unable to swing the club freely through the ball. That costs you power."

"Otherwise, I just try to work on good rhythm and timimg. I concentrate on making a nice, smooth swing. I generate plenty of power but I don't try to hit the ball too hard - I feel like it's a controlled hit. I used to swing flat out all the time, but now I would say I swing at about 80%. That has helped my balance and improved my consistency."

"I think most amateurs would benefit if they focused a bit more on their rhythm and timing."
