The Farm

The Story - The name on the Farm's Title Deed is 'GANZERKRAAL' which means 'GOOSE CLOSURE or ENCLAVE'.  The Farm and surrounding area was given the name over a century ago when Wild Geese from the area flew down during the day to rest in the cattle and sheep closures.  They would forage on the seeds and pips in the feed, while the animals were out on pasture.  This behaviour was especially prevalent during times of drought.

Now, more than 100 years later, Retief Goosen was introduced by entrepreneur Dr Werner Roux and partner to the present Owner, Morne Jonker.  Together they started a new company, "GOOSE WINES" to produce the World's only "THE GOOSE" Wine. Coincidence?  No...something very special and almost certainly meant to be.  There are 5 large dams on the farm that host various Water Fowl.  In March 2007, only a week after "THE GOOSE WINES COMPANY" was formed, a flock of wilder "Super Winged" Geese moved into the area and have made one of these dams their home.  In Afrikaans the birds are known as 'Wilde Makou', Africa's heaviest and largest species of fresh water Geese.

May "The Goose" Wines spread its wings and fly to all corners of our World to convey this unique experience to people who are passionate about wine, nature and friendship.
